Legacy Russell is the Executive Director of The Kitchen, a pioneering arts institution based in New York City. Russell is an author and cultural theorist whose work examines digital culture, identity, and resistance. Her book Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto, published by Verso in 2020, has become the defining text on digital selfhood and the liberatory potential of the glitch.
The work explores how technical failures and digital disruption can serve as tools for liberation and social change. Russell's subsequent book, BLACK MEME, was published by Verso in 2024, continuing her investigation into contemporary digital culture and representation. In recognition of her contributions to the arts, Russell received the Creative Capital Award in 2021.
