In the Footsteps of Giants
Speaker
About this talk
This talk examines what it truly means to coexist—with nature, with wildlife, and with forces larger than ourselves. Through intimate encounters and unforgettable stories, the speaker reveals how human expansion has turned shared landscapes into zones of conflict, and how misunderstanding often cages not animals, but our own perception. Blending personal awakening, science, and quiet wisdom drawn from both people and wildlife, the talk reframes coexistence as a daily practice rather than an abstract ideal. It invites a deeper reflection on restraint, responsibility, and what humanity must relearn if we are to share the planet without erasing those who were here first. Avinash Krishnan is a wildlife biologist and conservation scientist with over 15 years of experience studying elephants and promoting human–wildlife coexistence across India. As Director of Conservation Science at A Rocha India, he leads impactful programs on elephant conservation, conflict mitigation, and community engagement in the Bannerghatta–Hosur Landscape. A member of the IUCN SSC Asian Elephant Specialist Group, Avinash blends rigorous research with empathy-driven fieldwork, integrating science, communities, and policy to protect biodiversity. His work reflects a deep belief that coexistence with nature begins with understanding, compassion, and shared responsibility — a philosophy that continues to inspire conservation efforts across India’s most critical landscapes. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
