Kameelah Janan Rasheed

Kameelah Janan Rasheed is an artist and researcher working at the intersection of Black radical thought, archival practice, and speculative typography. Her installations have been featured at prominent venues including the Whitney Museum and The High Line, establishing her as a significant voice in contemporary art practice. Rasheed has presented keynote addresses at the CODEX Foundation, sharing her critical perspectives with audiences engaged in questions of form, history, and cultural memory.

Rasheed's practice engages with archives as sites of resistance and reimagination, exploring how typography and design can function as tools for Black intellectual traditions and radical thought. Her work examines the materiality of documents, texts, and visual systems, questioning how information is organized, preserved, and made visible. Through installations and other media, she investigates the political dimensions of how we access and interpret historical narratives.

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Rasheed has received support through residencies at Pioneer Works and Skowhegan, institutions committed to advancing experimental artistic practice. Her work continues to challenge conventional approaches to archival research and visual culture, offering new frameworks for understanding how design, typography, and speculative thinking can serve as modes of critical inquiry and cultural intervention.
