Lewis Pugh is a pioneering endurance swimmer and UN Patron of the Oceans. He completed the first long-distance swim across the North Pole to draw attention to the melting of Arctic sea ice.

Pugh has undertaken numerous record-breaking swims to highlight the vulnerability of the world's oceans, including swimming the entire length of the English Channel. He is a member of the Explorers Club and has received numerous awards, including the UN's highest environmental accolade, the Champions of the Earth Award.

My mind-shifting Everest swim

After he swam the North Pole, Lewis Pugh vowed never to take another cold-water dip. Then he heard of Lake Imja in the Himalayas, created by recent glacial melting, and Lake Pumori, a body of water at an altitude of 5300 m on Everest -- and so began a journey that would teach him a radical new way to approach swimming and think about climate change.
