Julian Assange
Australian publisher and activist | Founder of WikiLeaks transparency platform
About
Julian Assange is an Australian editor, publisher, and activist who founded WikiLeaks in 2006, fundamentally changing how the world views government transparency and information freedom. His platform became a global catalyst for accountability journalism when it published major document releases that exposed previously hidden government and military activities. Assange gained international prominence in 2010 after WikiLeaks published groundbreaking leaks from Chelsea Manning, a United States Army intelligence analyst. These releases included footage of a U.
S. airstrike in Baghdad, U. S. military logs from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, and thousands of U.
S. diplomatic cables. The publications sparked worldwide debates about government secrecy, press freedom, and the public's right to know about activities conducted in their name. His work has earned him over two dozen awards for publishing and human rights activism, cementing his role as one of the most influential figures in digital journalism and transparency advocacy.
