What Does It Really Mean to Be Yourself?

The speaker reflects on a question that hit her during college applications: when asked to define herself in 650 words, she realized she wasn't sure who "herself" actually was. Her conclusion is liberating: stop hunting for a "100% authentic" core. True selfhood isn't a fixed state—it's the freedom to switch between versions: the playful friend, the composed leader, the SAT warrior. Each is real because you chose it. And that choice?
