Ralph Nader
Consumer rights advocate | Author and four-time presidential candidate
About
Ralph Nader is a pioneering consumer advocate and political activist whose career spans over five decades of challenging corporate power and government accountability. He rose to national prominence in the 1960s with his groundbreaking book "Unsafe at Any Speed," which exposed safety defects in the automobile industry and led to landmark federal safety legislation.
His work directly contributed to the creation of numerous federal agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Throughout his career, Nader has founded dozens of citizen advocacy organizations and has been instrumental in passing consumer protection laws that have saved countless lives.
He ran for President of the United States four times as a third-party candidate, advocating for corporate reform, environmental protection, and expanded democratic participation. His TED 2020 presentation on creating social change against all odds draws from his extensive experience taking on powerful interests and winning significant victories for ordinary citizens through persistent organizing and legal advocacy.
